# SignalBase: manual setup for ChatGPT and Claude chat

Have the **library username and temporary password** sent privately by your administrator ready. Configure whichever platform you use; setting up both is optional.

- Server URL: `https://signalbase.fans/mcp`
- Display name: `SignalBase`
- Description: `Search research reports, expert interviews, news and research articles.`
- First sign-in requires a new password with at least **12 characters**. Use that new password on every client afterwards.
- Library credentials are separate from your ChatGPT/Claude account. The Client ID is not your username.
- A redirect to `xuanagent.com` is expected: SignalBase currently uses that identity service.

## Connect Claude chat

For individual **Pro / Max** plans. On Team / Enterprise plans, an organization Owner adds the connector first.

1. Open [claude.ai](https://claude.ai) and sign in to your own Claude account.
2. In the sidebar, choose **Customize**, then **Connectors**.
3. Click **+**, then **Add custom connector**.
4. Set the name to **SignalBase**. Enter `https://signalbase.fans/mcp` under **Remote MCP server URL**.
5. Expand **Advanced settings**:
   - **OAuth Client ID:** `research-claude-chat`
   - **OAuth Client Secret:** leave blank.
6. Click **Add**. Back in the connector list, find **SignalBase** and click **Connect**. If sign-in opened automatically, continue below.
7. On the library sign-in page, enter your library username and password, then click **Sign In**.
8. On first sign-in, enter and confirm a new password of at least **12 characters**, then click **Submit**. Skip this if you already changed it.
9. Approve the authorization page with **Yes / Allow** and return to Claude.
10. Start a conversation. Click **+** at the lower left of the message box → **Connectors** → enable **SignalBase**.
11. Send the sample question below.

**Team / Enterprise:** the organization Owner opens **Organization settings → Connectors → Add → Custom → Web** and enters the same URL and OAuth fields. Members open **Customize → Connectors**, find that connector and click **Connect**, then follow steps 7–11. Members do not need to create it again.

## Connect ChatGPT chat

1. Open [ChatGPT Plugins](https://chatgpt.com/plugins) and sign in to your own ChatGPT account.
2. Click **+** to create a connection. If it is missing, open your profile/account menu → **Settings → Security and login → Developer mode**, enable it and return to Plugins. Availability depends on account and workspace policy.
3. Enter:
   - **Name:** `SignalBase`
   - **Description:** `Search research reports, expert interviews, news and research articles.`
4. Under **Connection**, select a remote server URL. Set **MCP Server URL** to `https://signalbase.fans/mcp`.
5. Choose **OAuth**. If registration options appear, choose the **preconfigured / manual client** option:
   - **OAuth Client ID:** `research-chatgpt`
   - **OAuth Client Secret:** leave blank.
6. Click **Create / Connect** to open the library sign-in page.
7. Enter your library username and password, then click **Sign In**. Do not put these credentials in Client ID or Client Secret fields.
8. On first sign-in, choose and submit a password of at least **12 characters**. If you changed it on another client, use that new password.
9. Click **Yes / Allow** on the authorization page, then return to ChatGPT and review the discovered tools.
10. Start a conversation and select **SignalBase** from the **+ / tools menu** beside the message box.
11. Send:

> Using only SignalBase, list the five latest Bernstein reports with their dates, titles and authors.

## Common questions

- **Why different Client IDs?** Each is registered for its platform's callback. Use the one in the relevant section. Both Client Secret fields are blank.
- **Do I sign in on the SignalBase homepage first?** No. Start from the platform connector and follow its sign-in redirect.
- **Already changed your password?** Use the new password; the temporary password does not reset for each platform.
- **New computer?** Web connections may follow your platform account. Click Connect and authorize again if required.
- **Missing controls?** UI labels vary with version/language, and account or organization policy may hide custom connectors. Send a screenshot to the administrator without credentials.
- **Connection error?** Check that the full URL includes `/mcp`, the Client ID matches the platform, and Client Secret is blank. Send the error text and time to your administrator if it persists.
